Dublin taxi-drivers may stage a "tactical withdrawal of services" in the near future, according to SIPTU's taxi branch official, Mr Gerry Brennan. The union wants a regulator appointed for the industry, new safety regulations and compensation for drivers who bought plates in the past, writes Padraig Yeates, Industry and Employment Correspondent

SIPTU held an information meeting for its members in Liberty Hall, Dublin, last night to report on progress with the Department of the Environment and Local Government. Mr Brennan said he was optimistic that discussions with the Department would be successful.
