Ssssssshhh . . . children at Carysfort National School, Blackrock, Co Dublin, are currently reading their hearts out in a readathon to raise funds for the "Burren Chernobyl Project" in Ennistymon, Co Clare. It's the school's first readathon. For the duration of the month, each classroom will have "a sharing library" for all the books that are read and re-read by their owners. Pupils will donate their books for the month to be shared and enjoyed by others in the class. These will then be returned to their owners at the end of the readathon. Each student has a card and this is signed by parents on completion of each book. There is also a section for comments and opinions on each book. Friends and families of the readers have been invited to sponsor the event.
