Meath prove too strong for Dublin in Navan

Meath dominated from start to finish when comfortably accounting for a disappointing Dublin by 1-18 to 2-5 in their one-sided Electric Ireland Leinster Minor Football Championship quarter-final at Pairc Tailteann this afternoon.

Despite the concession of an early goal to Kevin Callaghan, the hosts assumed control from the outset as they enjoyed a 0-12 to 1-2 interval lead.

Dublin trimmed their deficit upon the restart thanks to points from Conor Hynes and Sean Bugler but the dismissal of Cormac Howley punctured the brief momentum they enjoyed.

A Jason Scully goal in the 54th minute all but confirmed Meath's progress with Callaghan adding a consolation goal late on for Dublin.

It proved similarly straightforward in Newbridge as Kildare overcame Westmeath by 1-16 to 0-8.

Ciaran Kelly's early penalty helped The Lilies to a 1-7 to 0-2 interval lead and a Luke Mullins save from Tom Molloy's penalty after the break stalled any thoughts of a Westmeath comeback.

The remaining tie of the day saw Laois narrowly defeat Louth by 2-10 to 1-12 in Drogheda with Ciaran Comerford scoring the pivotal goal of the game.
