Paul Gogarty (55), former Green Party TD, is member of South Dublin County Council for the Lucan area since 2014.

The Palmerstown native will always be remembered for his intemperate outburst in the Dáil chamber in 2009, when he turned on Labour Party deputy Emmet Stagg, shouting: “With all due respect, in the most unparliamentary language, f**k you Deputy Stagg! F**k you!”.

He immediately apologised to the House for his use of “unparliamentary” language.

He lost his seat in the 2011 general election and let his Green Party membership lapse. He returned to local politics as an independent for the locals three years later.

In the 2020 general election in Dublin Mid West he won 3,784 votes and was eliminated on the sixth count. In the 2019 by-election he lasted through to the ninth and final count, achieving 5,063 votes. Mark Ward of Sinn Fein won the seat.

He lives in Lucan with his wife Heidi and their three children.
