Peter Burke

Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment and sitting Fine Gael TD for Longford-Westmeath, Peter Burke (42), is married to Olivia and has two young sons.

This year will be bittersweet for Burke, as his mother Mary (nee Donnelly) passed away only last month.

Subsequent to graduating from NUI Galway in 2004, Burke joined Stephens Cooke & Co Chartered Accountants and Registered Auditors in Mullingar and qualified as a chartered accountant. He is 10 years in practice.

Burke was appointed to his current Cabinet position on April 9th, 2024, having previously served as minister of State with responsibility for EU Affairs and Defence from December 2022.

Previously, he was minister of State with responsibility for Local Government and Planning from July 2nd, 2020, to December 21st, 2022.

Burke was first elected to the Dáil in 2016, having previously been elected to Westmeath County Council and Mullingar Town Council in June 2009.
