Micheál Carrigy

Micheál Carrigy (52) is a newly elected Fine Gael TD having served as a senator in the 26th Seanad from 2020 to 2024.

The Ballinalee native is married to Una and they have three children.

Mr Carrigy is a postmaster in the village, with the post office also including a local shop. He took over the position of postmaster from his mother, Eilish Carrigy.

In 2009, Mr Carrigy was first elected as a councillor for the Granard area and was re-elected in 2014 and 2019. He also served as Cathaoirleach of Longford County Council from 2019 to 2020.

In the 2020 general election, although unsuccessful in securing a seat, he received 6,334 first preference votes. However, in March of that year he was elected to the Seanad on the Industrial and Commercial Panel.

Carrigy was also a member of the Oireachtas Committee on Tourism, Culture, Arts, Sport and Media.
