Fianna Fáil's Albert Dolan has been elected in Galway East

Fianna Fáil councillor Albert Dolan has claimed one of the four seats in Galway East in the general election.

Long considered a rising star in his party, the 26-year-old was voted in on his birthday ahead of fellow Fianna Fáil member and outgoing Minister of State Anne Rabbitte in an impressive showing.

The youngest cathaoirleach in Galway County Council history, Mr Dolan was formerly the youngest person to be elected to the council, aged 19, in the 2019 local elections.

Growing up on a farm in Monivea, he works as an accountant alongside his father in Loughrea.

After earning his degree in commerce at University of Galway and qualifying as a chartered accountant, Mr Dolan returned to his agricultural roots, studying at Mountbellew. Central to his campaign have been commitments to helping farmers, small business owners and rural communities.
