Old ways and new ways

Sir, – Nowadays it’s hard to believe how we were so economical in our way of living. Children’s clothes had to be bought in larger sizes so that they could last longer. Socks had to be mended and we were taught how to do this in school,

However, I don’t envy parents nowadays with big mortgages, hefty food bills, enormous fuel and heating bills and more busy, stressful lives. Life gets easier in some ways but other stresses come to the fore as time marches on. – Yours, etc,

MARIA BROPHY,

Castleknock, Dublin 15.
