Nicosia - The Cypriot President, Mr Glafcos Clerides (81), underwent successful surgery yesterday to remove a polyp from his colon, doctors said.

The operation, which lasted more than three hours at a Nicosia clinic, involved removing part of the colon affected by the growth. "His condition is stable and satisfactory," the president's personal physician, Dr Iosif Kasios, said.
