Two light Italian rosés to drink in the garden this summer

Two light, fresh summery Italian rosés from Aldi this week. The first wine is organic and comes from Tuscany, a region best known for producing Chianti, a red wine. This wine is made primarily from Sangiovese, the main grape used in Chianti. Most Bardolino to be found in Ireland is red, but the region does produce large quantities of light, refreshing rosés, usually consumed by holidaymakers looking out over the nearby beautiful Lake Garda. I suspect it will taste nearly as good in an Irish back garden on a sunny day.

12.5% abv, €8.99 from Aldi

Richer and rounder than the Bardolino below with ripe summer fruits, balanced nicely by some citrus notes. Serve on its own or with antipasti. A basil-scented mozzarella and tomato salad sounds good.

Unearthed Chiaretto di Bardolino Rosé 2023

12% abv, €9.99 from Aldi

Light and refreshing with strawberry and redcurrant fruits, finishing dry. Perfect served solo, lightly chilled on a warm sunny day, or with a bowl of strawberries.
