MindriotMt - Brothers album review: well-oiled rock, play loud, with beer

Genre: Rock
Label: Self-released

That it has taken Mitchelstown, Co Cork band Mindriot Mt the best part of 20 years to get around to releasing their debut album tells a tale – either they're a bunch of lazy lumps or they have been sensible enough to allow life get in the way without having a nervous breakdown. Either way, Brothers is a well-oiled genuflection at the altar of grunge.

Produced by Ciaran O'Shea, a former member of none-less-nifty Cork metal band Cyclefly, Brothers excels when it's played loud (it also helps to have a bottle of beer to hand – just for authentic ambience, you understand). Lean, fit and inherently melodic metal tracks such as Alibi, Run Away, Angeltown, Billy Ray, Boyz of the Tomahawk and Devil may suffer from song-title cliche but they are, to a song, skilful nods to their influences.
