BA to launch Dublin-London City service next winter

British Airways is planning a Dublin-to-London City Airport service that will fly five times a day from the end of October.

The airline has announced that it will launch the service from Dublin to the airport in London’s docklands on October 26th, when its winter schedule kicks off.

There will be five flights a day using Embraer 170 and 190 jets, which can carry between 80 and 120 passengers.

British Airways said the craft would be based in Dublin overnight to allow for early departures.

Willie Walsh, the Irish chief executive of British Airways parent, International Airlines Group, welcomed the news this morning.

“Our customers wanted direct access to the docklands and London’s financial centre and the excellent schedule we are offering means they have plenty of choice whether they are flying for business or pleasure,” he said.

Dublin Airport managing director, Vincent Harrison, also welcomed the news.

The airline already operates services connecting Dublin and Belfast with London Heathrow.

Its announcement follows the news earlier today that the Airports Council International awarded London City Best Airport in Europe in its category for the third year in a row.

Former Dublin Airport Authority chief executive, Declan Collier, now runs the docklands hub.
