McGee knocked out of Wimbledon Qualifier

James McGee was knocked out in the first round of the Wimbledon Qualifying event at Roehampton in London today.

The Irish Davis Cup number one went down in two sets 6-3, 6-4 to the seeded Chilean Paul Capdeville.

McGee earned an early break point in the match and was serving for 3-1 in the first set but the 32 seed earned three break points on Irishman’s serve to draw level at 2-2.

From there the first set unravelled for McGee, Capdeville taking advantage of the break and some momentum to serve out for the first set.

Ranked 155 in the world the 30-year-old 6ft 3in’ Capdeville made the first round of Wimbledon in 2009 but McGee, four years his junior, refused to yield and forced his opponent to serve out for the second set with the match poised at 6-3, 5-4.

The towering South American secured the game to love and the match to sweep into the next round.
