Dublin hope to regain their title against a team they last met in a provincial decider 16 years ago, and this year's semi-final win over Meath by 2-14 to 0-10 suggests they are an improving team. Declan Lally and Sean Breheny provided the cushioning of the two goals in that match, although it was the ability of substitute Cillian O'Driscoll to both score and deprive Meath of possession which gave Dublin an edge they will hope to have again tomorrow.
Westmeath, however, have shown plenty of ability themselves this season. They survived a startling late comeback by Laois in the semi-final and eventually won by four points. PJ Ward displayed exceptional scoring ability that day and has been moved to full forward. Colin Whyte, also a major contributor the last day, has been moved back to centre forward to accommodate Ward.
Westmeath have developed a fine tradition at underage football but a victory over Dublin may be beyond them this year.
