GLORIOUS Goodwood gets under way today with a highly competitive card and 98 runners contesting the seven races. One of the hottest races on the card is the King George Stakes over the minimum distance.

The Sussex track's live furlong course is one of the fastest in the country and Eveningperformance, one of the fastest sprinters in the country, is well suited by the undulating nature of the track.

In last year's contest Henry Candy's charge was always up with the pace until taking a definite advantage over one furlong out but was caught in the shadow of the post and beaten half a length by Hever Golf Rose who was conceding him 8lb.

The pair do battle again today but Eveningperformance is 2lb better off with her old rival this time. The Kingstone Warren trained mare showed on her latest start that she was nearing her peak when making all to defeat Venture Capitalist by half a length over five furlongs at Sandown.

The very fast Eveningperformance is taken to make all the running and notch her second success of the season in this Group Three event.

. King George winner Pentire has been sold to stand at stud in Japan, it was announced yesterday. But Moller Racing's four year old, who gained the biggest victory of his career in Saturday's £500,000 race at Ascot, will not be retired until the end of this season.
