Leinster colleges SH 'A' semi-final/Kilkenny CBS 2-6 Castlecomer CS 1-8:AN INJURY-TIME goal from Paul Guinan saw Kilkenny CBS snatch victory from the jaws of defeat in a dramatic finale to this Leinster Colleges A semi-final.
The centre forward's strike, almost six minutes into stoppage time, was enough to put his team into their third provincial final in a row and sink their local rivals and reigning champions Castlecomer Community School yesterday.
After a tense first half in Freshford, which Castlecomer edged 0-3 to 0-2, the game exploded into life with 20 minutes left.
Castlecomer went close to grabbing the first goal of the game when Darren Leahy broke through but his close-range shot was well stopped by goalkeeper Philip Byrne. Following a quick break downfield, CBS hit the net when corner forward Brian Kennedy stole inside his marker to flick an Ollie Walsh centre past netminder Gary Delaney.
The goal gave CBS their first lead in more than half an hour, but it didn't last long. Leahy made no mistake with his second goal attempt, stealing in to flick a long free to the net.
Led by Guinan (0-2) and Canice Maher (0-2), the sides continued to trade points, and were level as the game moved into the last minute of normal time (1-6 apiece).
Two late, late and impressive points from Tomás Breen looked like giving Castlecomer victory, but Guinan's last-gasp goal dashed their hopes.
The city side will play Dublin Colleges in the Leinster final.
