Sir, - I agree with Joseph Woods (October 13th) that a transport disaster will have to happen before anything is done about our deplorable rail service. As one of the commuters he refers to, I have written to Iarnrod Eireann many times about overcrowding and put forward constructive ideas on how to alleviate it. Not one of my letters has been acknowledged.

With all these extra DART coaches, why hasn't the frequency of the service been increased? This is much needed to reduce overcrowding and the resultant risk of accidents.

The powers that control the DART (including Mary O'Rourke) should try using the service at rush hours. Maybe then they might restore the service to an acceptable level. - Yours, etc.,
