Sir, – A notice in the national papers in connection with the above raises questions about the duties and responsibilities of directly elected mayors. It states that these include some or all of the functions now performed by the chief executive of the council.
Surely this is a very ambiguous statement. Is the mayor to be in charge or not? Who will make decisions? Who will be responsible in the final analysis? This should be clarified before putting the proposal to the people. – Yours, etc,
