Easter ‘in exile’

A chara, – As church choirs all over Ireland and overseas prepare to celebrate the most important Christian feast day, our choir and lay group Pobal Aifreann Dhún Laoghaire marks its second Easter in exile from our parish church.

As has been reported by your newspaper previously, our Parish Priest Fr Paul Kenny announced the end of our 50- year-old Irish language Mass by means of a notice in the parish newsletter in the summer of 2017 and since then he has refused to meet us.

Archbishop Diarmuid Martin continues to wash his hands of the dispute by referring to his appointment of a mediator.

Yet we remain committed to our faith, to our language and to rebuilding our parish, even if at the moment our church seems to have turned its back on us.

Last month we sent a proposal to resolve the dispute to Fr Kenny via the mediator and we await his response.
