Sir, – Newton Emerson writes that the DUP "has had no other idea on how to sell an Irish Language Act to its supporters" other than similar Ulster Scots legislation (Opinion & Analysis, September 14th). I suggest that the problem is much deeper than that.
Many unionists and the DUP simply will not accept nor acknowledge that their fellow countrymen, living and working with them cheek by jowl for decades, sharing the same space, sharing the same history, have an Irish identity and culture they wish to express alongside the culture of their unionist neighbours. – Yours, etc,
