Sir, – Further to "Trinity College to drop 'freshman' term over inclusivity concerns" (News, November 28th), will it also be a case of goodbye "undergraduate" and hello "pregraduate"? – Yours, etc,
ELLEN KEANE,
London.
Sir, – Further to Ronan McGurrin's speculation (November 29th) that policies promoting inclusivity may soon see Fermanagh shortened to "Feragh", might it be the case that the offending syllable has been misidentified?
After all, the county is named for “Fir Manach,” the “men of Manach”, in the Irish language. One can only hope that inclusive language entails inclusivity of languages. – Yours, etc,
CHRISTOPHER
McMAHON,
Castleknock,
Dublin 15.
Sir, – In light of recent events, is it really appropriate in today’s world to begin letters to the editor with the above? I suggest “Sir/Madam/Misc”. – Yours, etc,
TOM FORAN,
New Ross,
Co Wexford.
Sir, – The proposal to drop the “man” from the word “freshman” in Trinity College is music to my ears. I think I’ll write a little tune, and strum it on my dolin. – Yours, etc,
JOHN MULLIGAN,
Boyle,
Co Roscommon.
Sir, – Do not forget wo herself.
Woe to man? – Yours, etc,
EDA SAGARRA,
Rathgar,
Dublin 6.
Sir, – The “Trinity” in Trinity College Dublin has a religious connotation that is doubtless offensive to many. How about “Inclusivity College Dublin”?
And a “provost”? In 2017?
“Chief brand facilitator person” sounds much more like it. – Yours, etc,
MARY BYRNE,
Bray,
Co Wicklow.
