A chara, – This is no ordinary panto – it’s the Leinster House panto. – Is mise,
CHRIS O’KEEFFE,

A chara, – Frances Fitzgerald deserves a great deal of credit for her decision to step down. Even though she has made it plain that she believes she did nothing wrong, she decided to put the best interests of the country first and did what was needed to avoid a general election. Indeed, no one elected to high office who is unwilling to put the country first, whatever the personal costs, is worthy of that office.
Therefore, it is much to be hoped that in the future we will see a great many more public officials, whether elected or appointed, following the example of Ms Fitzgerald and standing aside when they become embroiled in scandal or controversy to the extent that it impedes their ability to do their job; and that it will not require the threat of collapsing the Government in order to persuade them to do so. – Is mise,
Rev PATRICK G BURKE,
Castlecomer,
Co Kilkenny.
