Aontú and media coverage

Sir, – It is standard journalistic practice for writers to declare an interest when addressing a topic of personal interest.

Breda O'Brien failed to do this when writing about her perception of the lack of media coverage of Aontú (Opinion, July 3rd).

Despite extensively referencing the political party, she made no reference to her familial association with its youth wing .

One would expect, in the interests of candour, that such issues would be noted (at least parenthetically) in an opinion piece; that The Irish Times would meet such standards.
