A united Ireland

A chara, – Niall Ginty (Letters, November 26th) wants to know what I mean by a united Ireland. I thought that was obvious but I will spell out the basics: it means a democratic system of government for the whole country – a system that treats all citizens equally, a system that works to promote the wellbeing of all citizens, especially those who have been marginalised since partition, an Ireland committed to saving and protecting the environment.

It is not wishful thinking. It is now a realistic goal. Who could be opposed to that ideal except the bully boys who threaten violence. – Yours, etc,

Fr JOE McVEIGH,

Enniskillen, Co Fermanagh.
