Sir, – Paul Cullen’s report on cataract operations (“Dublin’s eye and ear hospital performs 10,000th cataract operation,” December 13th) states that the hospital hopes to have eliminated its 500-person waiting list by February.
I was referred to the hospital in June and on September 1st I was informed by the hospital that there was a two-year waiting list simply to get an appointment with a doctor to discuss the cataract problem.
When I queried this, the same official repeated the statement: “Unfortunately, currently the wait time is 24 months for ophthalmology outpatients’ appointment.”
There is clearly a discrepancy between what Paul Cullen was told and what I was told. – Yours, etc,
