London police seek man who pushed cyclist into path of traffic

Police in London have appealed for help in identifying a man who pushed a cyclist off her bike and into the path of oncoming traffic in Whitechapel, east London. The woman in her early 40s was not injured in the attack. Video: Metropolitan Police

A female cyclist was chased and shoved off her bike by a man as she navigated a busy London street, footage released by police shows.

The video, shot from the cyclist’s helmet camera, shows the the man shouting and swearing at the woman, in her early 40s, after she asked him to wait for her to pass before crossing a road in Whitechapel, east London.

The man, dressed in dark clothing and believed to be in his 40s, is then shown pursuing the cyclist as she rides along the street.

He catches up with her as she nears a junction, and pushes her into the path of other traffic.

The woman can be heard screaming in shock as she falls to the ground.

Police said the cyclist was “very upset” following the attack “but did not require medical treatment”, and managed to move herself and her bike out of the way of moving traffic.

The assault took place on Sidney Street, as the cyclist turned off Whitechapel Road, on Friday May 1st at about 6pm.

Police have released the footage in a bid to identify the man.
