Strike action at Rye Valley Foods, the Carrickmacross-based subsidiary of Golden Vale plc, has been deferred following a decision taken at executive level of SIPTU. The workers were due to take strike action next Monday after SIPTU wage demands were not met by management at the plant.

The deferral is to allow Mr Stephen Tracey, a former Rights Commissioner, to mediate between the trade union and Rye Valley management. The meeting is to take place this morning in Carrickmacross.

It is understood that both the management at the Co Monaghan plant and the union are optimistic of reaching a solution to the current wage impasse.
