TAKING advantage of the fact that next Thursday's date won't fall again until 2000, the campaign group STAD (Stop Thorp Alliance Dundalk) is planning a special Leap Year concert guaranteed not to be repeated before the Millennium. That's a year for each of the four members of the group local organic farmer Mark Dearey, businessman Ollan, art teacher Mary Kavanagh and artist Constance Short. The last of these is flying back specially for the night from New York where she has just unveiled a new exhibition of work.
Last month, the quartet were in the Supreme Court after British clear, Fuels appealed against the mission granted in 1995 to the group to have their case heard this country the outcome of that peal is still awaited. In the time, STAD has been drumming fresh support and funds for the cause with next Thursday's in Dundalk Town Hall those who've agreed to give their, services without charge are Luka Bloom and his sister Eilish Moore Dublin jazz/funk band Deiseal and Dundalk band La Lugh (who're celebrating the release of their new album Brigid's Kiss) together with the 55 member Setanta choir and locals Catriona McDermot and Bobby, Robertson who'll perform the Sellafield Song. Just to remind the audience that the night is meant to have an element of romance, there'll be raffle prizes of oysters and roses.
And, if any woman wants to propose marriage, say the organisers "we'll certainly encourage them".
