Dublin solicitor Gerald Kean has told the Mahon tribunal that he never made any payments to lobbyist Frank Dunlop on behalf of clients.

Giving evidence yesterday as part of the tribunal's investigation into lands at Cloghran near Dublin airport, Mr Kean confirmed that he had acted on behalf of a business consortium when it bought the property in 1989.

Mr Kean said that he would be "absolutely startled" if a member of the consortium had suggested that he made payments from the proceeds of the sale of the lands to any third party other than those set out in his ledger card.

He said that he had made no payments to Mr Dunlop or anyone on his behalf.

He said he had acted for consortium members John Butler, Niall Kenny and Tom Williams when they bought the land at Cloghran for £165,000 in 1989.

The tribunal heard that this land, as well as another property nearby was sold for £1.6 million several years later.

Mr Kenny's evidence was adjourned until next month.
