Playing the Trump card at the UN

Sir, – The draft UN resolution calling for the withdrawal of US president Donald Trump's recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital was voted on, 14 for to one against, but it was NOT adopted due to the veto that the USA has, being a permanent member of the Security Council (irishtimes.com, December 19th).

When will the rest of the world’s nations waken up to the gross unfairness, where any one of the five permanent members can effectively give the two fingers to the rest of the world, when it suits their own narrow selfish agenda?

Perhaps someone will do something constructive about this in 2018. I wish. – Yours, etc,
