Victims of the Omagh bomb are to receive just £15,000 from near sell-out football matches involving Chelsea, Manchester United and Liverpool, it was claimed last night.

Even though around £200,000 was raised by the three games in the aftermath of the August 1998 attack which left 29 people dead, the costs of staging the friendlies are estimated at £180,000.

Omagh Town footclub club secretary, Mr Pat McGlinchey, whose club played the English teams, said: "We would have been happy to break even on the venture. These games were not about making money, but about raising morale amongst the people of the district."
