FG and FF to chair 13 out of 19 Oireachtas committees

Sinn Féin secures justice, Belfast Agreement and regional development committees

Fine Gael will chair seven of the Oireachtas committees while Fianna Fáil secured six under the D'Hondt system. Sinn Féin secured the justice, Belfast Agreement and regional development committees.

Labour will chair public service oversight and petitions. The rural alliance, which is made up of Michael Harty, Michael Collins, Mattie McGrath, Noel Grealish and the Healy-Rae brothers, will chair the European affairs committee. The Independents for Change group will chair the Irish language committee.

Fine Gael will chair the budget, health, housing, agriculture, transport, communications and children committees.

Fianna Fáil secured the public accounts committee, finance, education, enterprise, social protection and foreign affairs. There are 19 committees in total.

Fine Gael will struggle to fill its places on the committees. Only 23 party TDs are not Ministers or Ministers of State. There are 11 members on each committee – seven TDs and four Senators.
