Police in Northern Ireland are tonight investigating a bid to abduct a teenage girl in Belfast.

The incident happened as the 17-year-old walked along Slieve Darragh Park in the Cavehill Road area of the city late this afternoon.

A car with two men inside pulled up alongside the girl and one of the men jumped out and tried to pull her into the back of the vehicle.

The girl managed to struggle free, however, and ran off, and the men drove away.

The teenager was uninjured, but said to be very shocked by the incident.

Detectives appealed for information from anyone who may have seen what happened and advised girls walking on their own to be extra vigilant.
