A 36-year-old man who had a relationship with a 13-year-old girl and fathered her child has been jailed for two years by Judge Des Hogan at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.
The married father of three children, a security guard, pleaded guilty to four counts of having unlawful carnal knowledge of the girl on dates between December 1999 and November 2000. He cannot be named for legal reasons.
Det Garda Sean McAvinchey told Ms Mary Rose Gearty, prosecuting, that the girl first had sexual intercourse with the man after getting drunk at a New Year's Eve party in his house.
Det Garda McAvinchey said the then 15-year-old girl gave birth in August 2001 and the man was subsequently arrested.
He co-operated with the gardaí but insisted she had instigated the relationship.
Judge Hogan described it as a most serious crime committed by an older man on a considerably younger girl.
