Gardaí have launched a murder investigation following the fatal shooting of a man at his house in Co Clare.

Gardaí have launched a murder investigation following the fatal shooting of a man at his house in Co Clare.

Mr Sean Poland (39) died on his doorstep after being shot once in the body when he opened the front door of his home at 11.30 p.m. last night to a group of men.

It is understood between four and six men then entered the victim's house, which is in an area known as Blackwater, Ardnacrusha.

They tied up Mr Poland's partner and demanded money.

There have been no arrests. Gardaí from Mayorstone in Limerick are investigating.

The State Pathologist Dr John Harbison and a Garda technical team are due to conduct a forensic examination of the scene.
