Moderate earthquake hits Iran

A moderate earthquake of magnitude 5

A moderate earthquake of magnitude 5.3 struck southwestern Iran today, the US Geological Survey said, but there were no immediate reports of any injuries or damage.

The quake struck 160km west of the Iranian port of Bandar Abbas this morning, the USGS said.

Iran is  criss-crossed by a number of major faultlines and is frequently hit by earthquakes.
