A 54-year-old Connemara man charged with indecently assaulting three children between 1978 and 1990 was remanded in custody with consent to bail when he appeared before Galway District Court yesterday.

The man, who cannot be named, faces 10 charges involving the alleged indecent assault of the children. He appeared in court with his wife. Ms Eimear Joyce, defending, said her client lived outside the jurisdiction and had travelled voluntarily to court to face the charges.

Judge Michael Fitzpatrick set bail on the accused's own surety of £600, and one independent surety of £3,000 cash. He is to appear before the court again on Tuesday.
