A Cavan woman in her 80s escaped yesterday when a fully laden 50-tonne excavation dumper truck ploughed through the front wall of her home. The accident occurred at 10.30 a.m. in Butlersbridge, on the main Cavan-Clones road. As the dumper truck approached the village, while drawing stones for the new Cavan bypass, it overturned and its trailer separated from the cab and crashed into the woman's home. The road was sealed off while rescuers worked to free her.
After 2 1/2 hours they found her to be dazed and shaken but not seriously injured. She was taken to Cavan General Hospital where she is being treated for severe shock.
