Three dead after collisions on Irish roads over the weekend

Three people have died as a result of collisions on Irish roads this weekend.

A driver in his 20s died after a collision on the N7 Naas Road in the early hours of Saturday, gardaí said.

´The man received fatal injuries when his 4x4 collided with a barrier near Junction 2 Kingswood in Dublin at about 6.20am. He was the only person in the vehicle.

The man was taken to Tallaght Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The road was closed outbound for several hours on Saturday morning to allow a Garda forensic investigation.

Gardaí have appealed for witnesses to the incident to contact Clondalkin Garda station on 01-6667600 or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800-666111.

Motorcycle collisions

Elsewhere, a 66-year-old man was killed when his motorcycle collided with a Land Rover in Newry on Sunday.

The fatal incident occurred shortly after midday on the Warrenpoint Road, which was closed to traffic on Sunday afternoon as police continued their investigations. There were no other injuries reported.

A man in his 40s also died on Sunday after his motorcycle collided with a car in Athlone.

The incident occurred at 1pm at Summerhill.

The man was treated at the scene before being taken to University Hospital Galway, where he was later pronounced dead.

The scene of the collision was being preserved for a Garda forensic examination.
