A teenage motorcyclist died in a crash in Dublin on Monday afternoon.

The single vehicle crash occurred at Clarehill, Dublin 17, at 4.20pm.

Gardaí in Dublin are investigating after the young man was fatally injured when his motorcycle collided with a lamp post. He was pronounced dead at the scene and his body was removed to Beaumont Hospital.

A 23-year-old male pillion passenger was seriously injured and has been taken to the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital.

The stretch of road is currently closed to facilitate an examination by Garda forensic collision investigators and local diversions were put in place.
