ESB crews are working to restore power to hundreds of houses left without electricity overnight following severe electrical storms yesterday.

The worst hit areas were the counties of Louth, Meath, Westmeath, Cavan, Monaghan and Donegal.

A spokesman for the ESB said it hoped to have power restored to all areas by mid-afternoon. Northern Ireland was the worst affected region, with more than 20,000 homes without power at the height of the storms.
