Tehran - An Iranian court jailed five men yesterday for up to 15 years for the attempted assassination of leading reformer Mr Saeed Hajjarian, the official news agency IRNA reported.
It said Saeed Asgar, who shot and seriously wounded Mr Hajjarian, a key ally of moderate President Mohammad Khatami, in the March attack, was sentenced to 15 years in jail for endangering national security.
Several of the defendants, mostly identified during the trial as Islamic hardliners, were also charged with shooting and wounding two other people during separate unrelated attacks.
