John Lennon’s toilet sold for nearly 10 times its guide price at auction today.
The porcelain lavatory was used by the music legend for three years when he lived at Tittenhurst Park in Berkshire between 1969 and 1972.
Lennon told builder John Hancock to keep the toilet and “use it as a plant pot” after he installed a new one. It was stored in a shed at Mr Hancock’s home for 40 years until he died recently.
It was expected to sell for just £1,000 but an overseas investor paid £9,500 (€11,500) for it at the 33rd annual Beatles Convention at the Liverpool Institute for the Performing Arts.

“It is unbelievable,” auction organiser Stephen Bailey said. “We had bids coming in from all over the place but it went to a private overseas buyer.”
