A CARLOW man has received a six-year sentence for indecently assaulting his teenage daughter in Co Kildare more than 30 years ago. Judge Frank O’Donnell suspended the final three years of the sentence given the man’s age and the time lapse since the offences and gave him “full credit” for the 14 months he had already spent in jail on the matter.
The man (63), who cannot be named for legal reasons, was convicted of four counts of indecently assaulting his daughter after a four-day trial at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.
He had pleaded not guilty to all four charges which happened in Co Kildare between October 1981 and March 1983, when his daughter was 12 to 14 years old.
Judge O’Donnell told the man that staying out of the witness box during his trial was the one thing in his favour.
