The Auxiliary Bishop of Dublin, Dr James Moriarty, formally launched an initiative to promote the canonisation of Matt Talbot at Knock Shrine yesterday.

Mall Talbot, who died in 1925, aged 69, was one of Dublin's "hard drinking men" until the age of 28 when he underwent a conversion. He spent the rest of his life in prayer, asceticism and service to Dublin's poor.
