A file is being prepared for the DPP after an 18-year-old man was shot in the back by a gunman during a car chase in Limerick city on Saturday night.

The man suffered pellet wounds after he was shot while driving in Clare Street area at 11.30pm.

He managed to drive to the St Mary's Park area where he met gardaí who took him to hospital.

Three men, one aged 19 and the others in their early 20s, were arrested on Sunday afternoon in connection with the shooting in the Ballinacurra Weston area of the city.

They have since been released without charge, but gardaí confirmed last night that a file is being prepared for the DPP.

It is understood that the shooting was linked to a separate incident which took place earlier the same night in which the chief suspect in the shooting was assaulted.

Both incidents are connected to a violent feud which has claimed four lives so far.

The victim of Saturday night's shooting has been discharged from hospital.
