Funding of £250,000 has been made available for a new decompression chamber to be located at University College Hospital Galway. The facility will greatly assist in the treatment of divers who suffer decompression sickness. The illness, which can be fatal, is caused by nitrogen bubbles in the bloodstream and is usually caused by surfacing too quickly.
