A 21-year-old man has been charged with the murder of his mother in Bray, Co Wicklow.
The body of Lynn Cassidy (50) was discovered in her home on Friday.
Her son, Bijan Afshar, appeared before a special sitting of Bray District Court yesterday evening and was charged with her death between June 26th and 27th.
The court directed a psychiatric report be carried out, and that Mr Afshar be given any necessary medical attention.
He was remanded to appear before Cloverhill District Court next Friday, July 4th.
The death, in a property on the Deepdales estate, was treated as murder after a postmortem was carried out on the woman's remains by Deputy State Pathologist Dr Michael Curtis at St Columcille's Hospital in Loughlinstown, Dublin.
Details of the postmortem were not being published for operational reasons, gardaí said in a statement.
“Investigating gardaí have confirmed that the woman died in violent circumstances,” it added.
Mr Afshar was arrested on Friday. An incident room was established at Bray Garda station to investigate the death and a Garda family liaison officer has been appointed in the case.
