Explosive devices made safe in Kildare and Limerick

Bomb disposal personnel called out by gardaí to separate sites

An explosive device was made safe after it was discovered at a house in Co Kildare in the early hours of this morning.

The Explosive Ordnance Disposal team was deployed by the Defence Forces in response to a Garda request after the improvised device was found in Ballitore, Co Kildare. A cordon was placed around the area for public safety.

The team arrived on the scene at 4.40am.

After an initial assessment, the device was confirmed as viable and was taken to a safe military location for examination. The scene was declared safe at 6 am.

It followed the making safe of two explosive devices in Limerick yesterday.

A bomb disposal team was called out by gardaí to a greenfield site in Annacotty at 1pm.

The improvised explosive devices were confirmed as viable and taken to a safe location for examination. The scene itself was declared safe at 3pm.

Parts of the devices are to be handed over to gardaí by the Defence Forces to assist them with their inquiry into the incident.
