Array of weapons, drugs seized as gardaí target Dublin brothers

Gardaí have seized ammunition used by the Irish military along with smoke bombs, swords, replica firearms, knuckle dusters and a wider array of illicit drugs.

The seizure was made as part of a criminal investigation into two brothers emerging on the north Dublin crime scene.

The two men, who are in their 20s and are from Finglas, have been arrested after gardaí moved against them following an intelligence gathering operation.

Garda sources say while the quantity of drugs and cash seized was modest, of more concern was the weaponry the men were found in possession of.

One source described the array of weapons as “sinister”, adding they were the type of items being offered for sale to teenagers.

A property was raided in Finglas on Monday morning as part of a pre-planned operation by gardaí from the K District Community Action team backed up by teams of gardaí based at Finglas Garda station.

Gardaí discovered cocaine and cannabis in various forms, including oil, as well as amphetamines, LSD and an array of drugs formerly sold by headshops before they were banned.

In total the drugs seized have been valued provisionally at about € 60,000 while an estimated € 2,000 in cash was also discovered.

Three replica firearms, including a rifle and two hand guns were also discovered as was a large quantity of ammunition.

Some of the ammunition, in several magazines, is for Styer rifles which are issued to members of the Defence Forces.

Containers of porridge oats were being used to conceal some of the items.

Then two arrested men were being detained under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice Drug Trafficking Act in Finglas Garda station on Tuesday.
